Central Sterile Equipment Replacement
NewYork-Presbyterian undertook a critical infrastructure upgrade to enhance infection control and surgical instrument sterilization compliance in its Central Sterile department. Aging washer-disinfectors were replaced to ensure uninterrupted operating room support and maintain the highest standards of patient safety.
To minimize disruptions during the upgrade, temporary workflows and staging areas were established, allowing the Sterile Processing department to remain fully operational. The project scope encompassed the removal and disposal of legacy units, installation of state-of-the-art washer-disinfectors, and supporting modifications to plumbing, electrical, and ventilation systems.
Collaboration with Sterile Processing leadership, Biomedical Engineering, and Infection Prevention was key to ensuring the installation adhered to all clinical and regulatory requirements. Comprehensive staff training and system performance verification were conducted prior to turnover, reinforcing NewYork-Presbyterian’s commitment to surgical efficiency and patient well-being.
