Moses Campus Normal Power Expansion

Montefiore is expanding its normal power and electrical capacity at the Moses Campus through the introduction of a new 4000A, 120/208V electric service sourced from an existing Con Edison vault on Bainbridge Avenue. This critical infrastructure project is designed to support growing operational demands, improve resiliency, and provide the capacity needed for current and future capital initiatives. The scope of work includes installation of new switchgear within a repurposed Filter Storage Room, construction of generator and automatic transfer switch (ATS) distribution rooms on a newly built mezzanine, and integration of two 750 kVA step-up transformers to enhance system performance. Execution also involves significant structural modifications, construction of fire-rated enclosures, upgrades to existing panelboards, and installation of exterior electrical equipment to address spatial constraints on campus. A temporary power system will be deployed to support essential services during the transition, ensuring uninterrupted care and continuous hospital operations. Design alternates include the incorporation of DX cooling systems for electrical rooms and heat trace cabling for freeze protection to safeguard equipment in all conditions. Batska Consulting Group is managing project delivery, overseeing design coordination, permitting, and contractor execution. Phasing and scheduling strategies are carefully developed to minimize operational impact while ensuring all work aligns with NYC Department of Buildings and Con Edison requirements. Once completed, the Normal Power Expansion will significantly increase electrical capacity, improve redundancy, and position the Moses Campus to meet the evolving needs of its infrastructure and clinical programs for years to come.
