Mt. Vernon Elevator Modernization
Montefiore is preparing to launch a comprehensive elevator modernization program at its Mount Vernon facility, targeting four elevators that have reached the end of their service life. This modernization effort is essential to improving system reliability, enhancing passenger safety, and ensuring compliance with current NYC Department of Buildings and ASME A17.1 code standards. The scope includes full replacement of control systems, modernization of machine room equipment, door operator upgrades, and ADA compliance improvements to provide safe, accessible, and dependable vertical transportation.
Batska Consulting Group has completed the initial planning phase and engaged an elevator consultant to develop technical specifications, scope documents, and bid packages. The project is progressing toward contractor procurement, with bidding anticipated to open shortly. Pre-construction activities also include sequencing strategies designed to minimize disruption to hospital operations, ensuring that essential patient and staff circulation remains uninterrupted throughout the modernization.
Once construction begins, work will be carefully phased to maintain safe and continuous elevator service within the facility. Upon completion, the modernized systems will provide improved performance, reduced downtime, and long-term regulatory compliance. The upgrades will extend the useful life of the elevators while enhancing the overall experience for patients, staff, and visitors. The Mount Vernon Campus Elevator Modernization underscores Montefiore’s commitment to infrastructure resiliency and operational excellence, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable vertical transportation in support of high-quality, patient-centered care.
