Weiler Campus Sprinkler Upgrade
This infrastructure project encompassed the comprehensive replacement and modernization of the sprinkler system at Montefiore’s Weiler Campus, advancing fire protection and ensuring compliance with current NFPA and New York City Department of Buildings requirements. The scope of work included removal of outdated piping and sprinkler heads, installation of new risers, valves, and pumps, and integration of upgraded monitoring and alarm controls. These enhancements expand sprinkler coverage across patient care areas, research facilities, and public spaces while improving system redundancy and long-term reliability.
Because the work was carried out within an active hospital environment, careful sequencing and coordination were essential. Construction activities were staged to maintain continuous patient care, with shutdowns strategically scheduled during off-peak hours. Strict dust, noise, and infection-control measures were implemented to protect sensitive inpatient and diagnostic areas throughout the duration of the work. Ongoing collaboration with hospital leadership, facilities staff, and regulatory authorities ensured compliance and minimized disruption to daily operations.
The resulting sprinkler system upgrade strengthens life safety infrastructure across the Weiler Campus. By modernizing critical fire protection systems, the project enhances building resiliency, safeguards patients, staff, and visitors, and positions the facility to meet evolving healthcare demands. This investment ensures that Montefiore can continue delivering uninterrupted, high-quality, patient-centered care in a safe and code-compliant environment.
